It’s the third year the Shen Yun Performing Arts’ show was held in Vienna, Austria on April 17 at the Wiener Stadthalle.

This is the second time Principal Dancer of the Vienna State Opera, Gregor Hatala, saw Shen Yun. This is what he noticed.

[Gregor Hatala, Principal Dancer, Vienna State Opera]:
“It was much more spectacular and I also thought that today it was even more success than two years ago.”

Hatala also commented on what he specifically liked about the dances.

[Gregor Hatala, Principal Dancer, Vienna State Opera]:
“One thing I liked a lot that they worked very well with costumes and with the material of the costumes. So I like it if you use, let’s say, little details that give you big effect—so when you have all the girls coming with the pieces of cotton and you throw it around and you get all this nice effects and especially if there are many people together all doing the same movements for example with the costumes with the long sleeves—so these are things that look very good and were very well performed.”

For pianist Jürgen Solis, seeing Shen Yun for the first time was touching.

[Jürgen Solis, Pianist]:
“Completely touching I started, I think, four or five times just crying. I had this you know this ‘sea in my eyes.’ It was, yeah, completely touching.”

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is independent of China’s regime. They aim to revive the artistic tradition of China that thrived before decades of suppression by the Chinese Communist Party.

Besides being touched by the show, Solis hopes Shen Yun will be able perform in mainland China in the future.

[Jürgen Solis, Pianist]:
“The very special thing for me was, to feel the performers they doing it from the heart, from the bottom of their heart and this is really touching. This is so fantastic. I have no word for that, really. I only can say, thank you for this show and I wish the performers that their dreams will come true, to bring this show… to China.”

And as a musician, he also enjoyed the orchestra.

[Jürgen Solis, Pianist]:
“Wonderful, I love the combination of the, you know, the classical instruments, the strings, as well as the traditional Chinese instruments. It’s very interesting and I think that’s the point  there is no border in the heart, we are all one, we’re all the same, no matter if we are black, white, or you know, tall, we are all one, the same, and this is what the music is expressing.”
