The reception was organized by Vice President Edward McMillan-Scott. During his opening speech Mr McMillan-Scott introduced the show and talked about how recently a number of shows got canceled in Hong Kong as a Result of Visa Denial to Six Key Production Staff.

[Edward McMillan-Scott, Vice President of the European Parliament]:

“… they were blocked by the chinese regime. This is quite important development because after all Hong Kong is supposed to be an autonomous independent territory, but it does also show the extent of which the regime is increasing and asserting its power over Hong Kong.”

Csaba Sogor is a Member of the European Parliament from Romania where this year’s show also got cancelled after the local venue management received pressure from Beijing.

[Csaba Sogor, Romanian Member of the European Parliament]:

“Of course it’s very sad. Politics should never override human rights issues or cultural issues.”

Mr. Sogor said he’s hoping for a solution for the cancelation of the show in Romania. In the meantime he’s looking forward to see the show himself this year.

[Csaba Sogor, Romanian Member of the European Parliament]:

“I got an invitation to Paris on 24th of April and I’m sure that I will go to see.”

Gerard Batten is a Member of the European Parliament from the United Kingdom. He saw the show last year in London.

[Gerard Batten, British Member of the European Parliament]:

“I enjoyed it very much. I took my wife and we enjoyed it very much. It’s a very good show. It teaches you something.”

Mr. Batten said he liked the message that the show brings to the audience.

[Gerard Batten, British Member of the European Parliament]:

“You know, the themes of the show: truthfulness, compassion and tolerance, all things which are inimical to the Chinese Communist Party, so I think it’s a great message to put across.”

Helen Willetts works as an assistant of Vice President Edward McMillan-Scott at the European Parliament and was very impressed after seeing the show last year.

[Helen Willetts, Mep-Assistant]:

“I thought it was amazing. It was a completely different experience. I like going to the theatre but it’s something you won’t have seen before. It was really enlightening to see and I really hope a lot more of Europe get the opportunity to see it because I’m sure they’ll love it like I did.”

The President of the European Parliament, Professor Jerzy Buzek, sent his greetings to Shen Yun Performing Arts through a recorded video message.

[Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament]:

“I trust that Shen Yun Performing Arts will once again bring an enriching experience to the European audience and may you have a very fruitful tour of Europe this year.”

Shen Yun Performing Arts will give its first European show on the 5th of march in Amsterdam.
